Pilates

What is Pilates?

Pilates was developed in the early 20th century by a man called Joseph Pilates, for athletes and dancers. It is a form of exercise that improves overall strength, mobility and flexibility, as well as working on good postural alignment. There is a strong emphasis on building core strength.

Who is Pilates for?

All Pilates exercises can be modified or progressed, to provide either a gentle strength training programme or a more challenging workout. It is, therefore, suitable for almost everyone.

The principles of Pilates

The aim of Joseph Pilates was to combine key principles together to create a balanced body and mind. These principles are:

Concentration, breathing, centring (using the core as the base of all movements), control, flowing movements, and precision of movement.

Classes

There are both Studio and Online Classes available from September.

All classes are an hour long, and are for a maximum of 6 people, which allows me to pay individual attention to technique and any possible posture issues.

In the summer months I also run classes in my garden, so we can enjoy a bit of the outdoors whilst training!
